Managing Director and Head of Risk World Markets, Head of the US Region, and President & CEO, CIBC World Markets Corp.
Gary Brown is President and Chief Executive Officer of CIBC World Markets Corp., our U.S. broker-dealer, and Head of the U.S. Region. As Chair of the U.S. Management Committee, he is responsible for all business and governance functions under a U.S. regional management structure. In April 2008, in addition to his regional duties, Mr. Brown was named Managing Director and Head of Risk World Markets with global responsibility for the strategic risk framework and risk processes within the Wholesale Banking Division. Mr. Brown is a member of the Wholesale Banking Management Committee and the Investment and Credit Committees of CIBC.
Since joining CIBC in 2001, Mr. Brown served as Senior Vice President and Head of Corporate and Commercial Adjudication, the U.S. credit risk management group. He was appointed Chief Operating Officer - U.S. Region in March 2004 and CEO of our U.S. broker-dealer in September 2004. He serves as Chairman of the various U.S. legal entities, including CIBC Delaware Holdings, Canadian Imperial Holdings, Inc. and CIBC World Markets Corp.
From 1980 to 1999, Mr. Brown held a number of senior business and risk management positions with UBS AG, including the position of New York Branch Manager and Head of the Structured Finance division, one of six operating divisions of UBS in the Americas. After the merger with Swiss Bank Corp. was announced in 1997, Mr. Brown was appointed Chief Credit Officer - Americas where he was responsible for capital commitments of the firm and the merging of the credit and risk functions of the two firms.
Mr. Brown began his banking career in 1976 with The Chase Manhattan Bank, and after completing the Bank's corporate credit training program became a lending officer in the Commodity Finance division.
Immediately prior to joining CIBC, Mr. Brown worked for K2 Digital, Inc., an Internet professional services company, most recently as President and Director.
Mr. Brown received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1976 from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma and has attended executive education programs at the Salzburg Institute and Harvard Business School. He serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the Institute of International Bankers, as Chairman on the Board of Trustees of Mercy College, on the Board of Mercy Ships International (a hospital relief organization) and on the Board of Directors of the Foreign Policy Association.
