Robert Cormie
Head of Asia Pacific Region, Managing Director, CIBC World Markets Asia and Managing Director and Vice-President, Retail Distribution Asia, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce
Robert Cormie is Managing Director and Head of the Asia-Pacific Region for CIBC World Markets — CIBC’s wholesale banking business — and Vice-President, Retail Distribution for Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) in Asia. He is also Chief Executive of CIBC’s Hong Kong Branch.
Mr. Cormie began his career in law in 1991 working for a Toronto-based law firm where he practiced corporate and commercial law. He joined CIBC in Hong Kong in 1996 and has since worked in various roles relating to CIBC’s Private Wealth and Asset Management businesses in the Asia region. He assumed his wholesale banking role in April, 2010.
Mr. Cormie earned a B. Comm., in Finance from University of Alberta, and a J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School. He is admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong, England and Wales, and as a barrister and solicitor in Ontario, Canada.
Mr. Cormie is a member of Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners, Hong Kong Trustees Association, Hong Kong Association of Banks and the Hong Kong Taxation Institute.
He is also a member of the Wholesale Banking Management Committee.
